"The challenge of finding a 42k stretch

Everyone has the right to freedom of movement, but not everyone has the option. Restriction on movement is one of the major challenges for the Palestinian people living under occupation. They cannot travel freely on roads, or go from one city to another. Where they can go depends on their ID, whether they have a permit, which city they belong to, or who they are married to. They do not have a state, and their lands are controlled by a foreign army – that army controls their movement with roadblocks, checkpoints, military zones, an illegal wall and a complex set of discriminatory laws. The EU and the US talks about a two-state solution, an independent Palestine – but we cannot find the 42 KMs needed for a marathon. Not only 42 KMs of an area, which are supposed to be an independent state are controlled by the Palestinian themselves. This is why we do it."

Since 1967, the Israeli authorities have demolished approximately 25,000 Palestinian homes in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. This includes demolitions to allow for the expansion of Israeli settlements and settlement farms, the construction of the Annexation Wall and settler-only roads, closed military zones, military training areas, nature reserves, and punitive demolitions that amount to collective punishment, which is considered a war crime under international law. This short video produced by Al-Haq’s Monitoring and Documentation Department gives voice to Muhammad Usamah Taha, whose workshop and house were demolished by the Israeli authorities without prior warning, destroying his only source of livelihood and many of his possessions. Unfortunately, Muhammad’s experience is one shared by thousands of Palestinian families across the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

  Desde 1967, las autoridades israelíes han destruído alrededor de 25000 hogares palestinos en Cisjordania, Jerusalén Este y la franja de Gaza. Estas demoliciones, además, propician la expansión de las colonias israelíes, la construcción del muro y de carreteras de acceso a las colonias, las áreas restringidas militarmente, las zonas de entrenamiento militar, reservas naturales, y las demoliciones punitivas, que constituyen un castigo colectivo, y que se consideran un crimen de guerra según el derecho internacional. Este corto producido por el departamento de documentación de la asociación palestina Al-Haq da voz a Muhammad Usamah Taha, cuyo taller y casa fueron demolidos por las autoridades israelíes sin previo aviso, destruyendo su único medio de sustento, a parte del resto de sus posesiones. Lamentablemente, la experiencia de Muhammad es compartida por cientos de familias palestinas de todo el territorio ocupado palestino.
